What is it about scary music that makes the hair on your arm and neck stand? Whether it’s the theme song for Jaws, Halloween or Friday the 13th, certain music makes us want to hide under the sheets. And yet, somehow, we all enjoy it. That’s the idea that always inspired the Spooky Symphony and as the Halloween concert enters its 14th year, the adrenaline certain songs evoke in us always has us craving more.
With Halloween just around the corner, Miami-Dade County is gearing up for a spine-tingling and enchanting celebration. The Children's Trust once again presents the Spooky Symphony, a one-hour free musical extravaganza that promises to be an exciting, imaginative and fun-filled experience for the whole family.
This year’s Spooky is set to take place on Sunday, October 29, at 3 p.m., at the iconic Miami-Dade County Auditorium, located at 2901 West Flagler St. This year’s concert will feature unforgettable performances by the Alhambra Orchestra and the Greater Miami Youth Symphony. Under the skillful direction of conductors Daniel Andai and Huifang Chen, talented musicians will treat the audience to a mesmerizing repertoire of music. Families and children will be enchanted by movie themes from beloved classics such as Frozen, Ghostbusters, Apollo 13, and Star Wars. These iconic themes will add a cinematic twist to the Halloween festivities, creating a thrilling and immersive experience.
In addition to movie themes, the program will include excerpts from dramatic classics like Night on Bald Mountain, Firebird Suite, and Symphonie Fantastique. These pieces promise to add an element of drama and suspense to the musical journey, making it a truly unforgettable event.
One of the unique aspects of the Spooky Symphony is the integration of captivating visuals. Video images will be projected behind the orchestras, creating a visual spectacle that perfectly complements the music. These visuals will transport the audience to fantastical realms, enhancing the supernatural experience of the Spooky Symphony. And don’t forget to bring the family in costume.
Admission to the Spooky Symphony is free, but tickets are required to ensure you have a seat.
