The Miami FC soccer team helped celebrate The Children's Trust's 20th Anniversary on the evening of Saturday, May 27, in a match held at FIU Stadium against Orange County FC.
Trust staff, providers and their children received complementary tickets to attend the game and showed up en masse to support the local team, while also receiving recognition. As players and referees stepped onto the field, they were greeted by throngs of children wearing The Children’s Trust 20th Anniversary t-shirts.
Trust Director of Communications Ximena Nunez was also on hand to walk the game ball onto the center of the field before taking part in the ceremonial coin flip to start the game. Silvio Plata, who has been featured in The Trust’s 20th Anniversary campaign throughout the year, sang a rousing rendition of the National Anthem.
The Trust is a strong believer in the power of soccer bringing together the community and helping children and youth develop into adulthood. It has supported the U.S. Soccer Foundation’s Soccer for Success program since 2017 and recently partnered again with the foundation, Miami-Dade County and philanthropist Kenneth Griffin in the Miami-Dade Soccer Initiative, which will build 50 new soccer pitches and provide soccer programming in the community by the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
“We are proud and humbled to be honored by Miami FC. The Children’s Trust has long seen the value of utilizing soccer as an opportunity to keep kids safe and increase their physical and social-emotional wellness,” said James R. Haj, president & CEO of The Children’s Trust.
On Sept. 10, 2022, The Trust officially turned 20 years old and since then the organization has been celebrating with a campaign to build awareness of the impact it has had in its first two decades.
