The Children’s Trust fully endorses the groundswell of youth activism to alter the trajectory of their future by insisting on commonsense gun laws to ensure that the Stoneman Douglas High School mass shooting will be the last of its kind. Any legislation or initiative that helps reduce gun violence in our schools, neighborhoods and public spaces should be debated and considered. Further, we also advocate for increased state and federal funding to appropriately staff schools and other child-serving institutions to identify, monitor and connect children and youth with needed mental health treatment.
