Miami, FL – To help support Miami-Dade families with young children in times of crisis, The Children’s Trust gave $95,000 in emergency funding to the Miami Diaper Bank, the largest ever donation to the nonprofit which pays for and distributes diapers to the needy in the community. The emergency funding will help the Miami Diaper Bank purchase about 500,000 needed diapers to be distributed around Miami-Dade County over the next few months.
Among the many resources that have run dangerously scarce during the coronavirus pandemic, a shortage of diapers for families with babies and toddlers continues to be major problem, especially in low-income households. Since the middle of March, the Miami Diaper Bank has seen an increase of 600% in requests.?It has given out 189,000?diapers in the last three weeks.
“Families with babies, infants and toddlers have been among the hardest hit economically during the coronavirus pandemic. One of their biggest challenges is getting diapers,” said James R. Haj, president and CEO of The Children’s Trust. “The Miami Diaper Bank’s mission is to step up and fill the void for families who can’t get enough diapers and that need has never been more pressing than right now. The Children’s Trust will do everything it can to help get diapers to those who need them most.”
"We know we can always count on The Children’s Trust to support our mission and this donation will go a long way to getting already vulnerable families with young children through these tough times. We are incredibly grateful,” said Miami Diaper Bank Executive Director Gabriela Rojas. Even with the more than half-a-million diapers that will be purchased, the Miami Diaper Bank will need more in the near future and they have set up COVID-19 Relief and Response page on their website to accept more donations.
